Hello, and a helpful thing. [Oct. 18th, 2005|08:52 am]
World, Species, and Character Creation

Hi, everyone!

I'm looking for a place to develop my creatures and the world they live in, nd this seems like just the place! Most of my work is either modern-day or Jules Vernian steampunk based. I'm a huge zoology nerd, I'm a member of D:S:L for concept art and learning purposes, and I love making sculptures of the creatures I have invented.

For my first post, I want to share my in-development creature development form and ask you all to help me improve it, and possibly use it to describe your own creatures. I'm also going to attach a link to the name of the critters that goes to some of my artwork, so you can see what they look like.

This is mainly for my own amusement, but for those of you who do a lot of writing, I would appreciate your input.

I'll be updating the creature profiles and form as things are suggested or I write up ones for my other creatures. Here's to the growth of a the community!

Like the rest of you, I've developed a fantasy world as a setting for numerous stories. But the whole purpose of the community is to get all of us geeks together, right? Count me in!

Here are some books I recommend for anyone interested in fantasy writing and world building:

Worlds of Wonder by David Gerrold
Writer's Complete Fantasy Reference by Writer's Digest
How to Write Science Fiction and Fantasy by Orson Scott Card (Writer's Digest)
Writer's Guide to Fantasy Literature by Writer's Digest (again)

Hello everyone! I'm Rose, and I'm new to the group. I like the sound of the weekly workshops/contests - only it all seems a little quiet round here, so I'm going to try and liven it up a bit.

Basically, I've been creating worlds and characters since I can remember. I started my first serious fantasy project at 11, and I'm still working on it now and trying to get it published. My story War Tiger is a series of seven books set in four worlds I've been formulating for the past four years. I have a website for it which is down for the moment, but it'll be back up soon, and will have more info on the project there.

I've got various other, non-fantasy stories, which I won't go into just now, but anyways: I want to hear about YOUR stories, characters, worlds, species etc. Get everyone sharing ideas and more people joining, and things might liven up a little!
